For the month of July, seven Southern students spent the time with Paris as their classroom. They studied and explored the City of Lights and surrounding communities. The trip allowed us to go beyond the typical classroom experience by immersing us directly into Parisian culture and the complex metro system. While the trip may be long over, these photos submitted by some of the students show only a small fraction of the month-long adventure we had.
The Southern in Paris Program is under the direction of Profs. Luke Eilderts of World Languages & Literatures, Alex Girard and Camille Serchuk of Art.
Iliana Cusack-Mercedez, a senior graphic design major: “A narrow street in Laon, France.” West facade of Rouen Cathedral, Lui: “Rouen Cathedral was one of the last cathedrals we visited on our trip. I remember it fondly because it served as a grand finale to our trip.” Abstract Stained Glass in Reims Cathedral in Reims, France, Han Lui, senior Art-graphic design major: “I chose this one because I love the mix of old and new. I love the striking contrast between the colorful abstract shapes in a Gothic stained-glass window.” The Louvre Museum and the Tuileries Gardens, Paris, France, Cusack-Mercedez: “I like these pictures because they show both the architectural and decorative beauty in Paris and Laon.” The Magic Kingdom Castle in Disneyland Paris, Brennah Rogers, a senior French and communication disorders major: “We stayed from open to close and got to see the light show and fireworks at the end of the night. It was an amazing day with amazing people.” Student group in front of a fountain in the Versailles Gardens, Rioux: “This is another favorite picture of mine because I’ve made such funny, everlasting, incredible memories with these girls and I can’t wait to make more. Friendship for the win ladies!” A view of Paris skyline from the Eiffel Tower, Rogers: “This picture is one of my favorites because it was taken from inside the Eiffel Tower on our last day of the trip. The view was incredible and it was such a great way to wrap up our time in Paris.”
